Congratulations to Maiken Thorne and Mollie Grehan on their fantastic Bronze medal!
Some 4,800 athletes from 100 countries are competing in 30 different sports at the World Games held in Taiwan.
These games first held in 1981, are an international multi-sport event, meant for sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games. The World Games are organised and governed by the International World Games Association (IWGA), under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are held every four years.
The world’s best athletes unite in their common search for excellance during the Games and all compete at the very highest level in a multitude of sports and all in the pusuit of ‘faster’, ‘higher’ and ‘stronger’.
The opening ceremony, on July 16, was held in the Main Stadium, and involved 4,100 performers. The ceremony was watched by an estimated 100 million people worldwide. Maiken and Mollie competed their combined routine on Monday 20.07.09 in the final (after tempo and balance) and came third with a great score of 28.454. First place scored 28.612 and second 28.602, so as you can see it was very close. Well done again girls!
The future – in four years time, the 2013 World Games move to Cali, Columbia, South America. Will you there representing your country? Will your child?
Keep training! |
